Family Iridaceae
Many members of the Iris family (Iridaceae) are
cultivated as garden plants. There are about 1000
species and they are distributed all over the world. The
flowers and sheathing leaves grow up from an underground
bulb, corm or rhizome. Each flower has three coloured
sepals, three petals and three stamens and the sepals and
petals are often joined at their bases to form a tube.
