HELP INDEX NEXT UP PREVIOUS FEEDBACK ATG Family Agavaceae

AGAVE PLANTS Agave species are natives of the warm dry areas of the Americas and are known as "maguey" in Mexico. Some authorities include Agaves in the same family as Amaryllis (Amaryllidaceae or Iridaceae). Some members of this family provide useful fibres and others yield a substance from their roots which produces a lather and is used as a soap. These soap plants are known as "amoles". [CH] {FW}
