Rushes
Rushes have solid stems unlike grasses which have
hollow stems. The leaf of a rush has a base which
forms a sheath round the stem. The stems are round
in cross-section which makes it easy to distinguish
a rush from a sedge which has a three sided stem.
The small flowers of a rush have parts in threes
like most Monocotyledons and they usually grow in
clusters.
