Wild Rice
The Wild Rice of North America Zizania palustris grows in shallow lakes
and quiet streams. Plants can reach a height of 3 metres and the grains are
valued as food by ducks, fish and people. Native people harvest Wild Rice by
bending the stalks over a canoe and banging the heads with a stick to
dislodge the grains into the boat.
