Corn Silk
Female flowers of the corn plant make up the "ear" and each
silk fibre is the style of one ovary. When a pollen grain
falls on the silk it grows a pollen tube down through one
fibre to the ovary and nuclei from the pollen grain fuse with
the ovule. Each fertilisation results in a kernel of corn. Back to Corn
