Bamboo
Bamboo Bambusa is the largest of the grasses and
some species can be 30 metres tall with huge jointed
stems that grow up without branching. The outer layer
of Bamboo contains silicon which makes it hard enough
to produce sparks when struck with an axe. Because
Bamboo stems are hollow they can be used to make
water pipes, and because they are strong they are used to
build houses and bridges in the tropical countries where
they grow.
