Oil Palm
Oil Palm Elaeis guineensis is an African palm tree which is a useful
source of oils. The large clusters of small flowers produce hundreds of
black oval fruits which yield two kinds of oil. Palm oil, from the fruits
themselves, is used in soaps, candles, lubricants and industrial processes,
and the kernels of the seeds yield palm-kernel oil which is used in
margarines, chocolate and medicines.
