Flowering plant Spores
Many flowers produce both male and female spores and
some are able to fertilise themselves though often there
are mechanisms to reduce the likelihood of
self-pollination such as having a stigma higher than the
stamens or having the male and female organs ripening
at different times. Pollination by another plant increases
mixing of genetic material which is an advantage to an
evolving species.
