Stinging Nettle
Stinging Nettle Urtica dioica is a common wayside plant in its
native Britain and grows as a weed in North America. It has a hollow stem
that is square in cross-section and simple leaves with toothed margins. Small
greenish flowers grow from the leaf axils. The plant is covered with hairs
that sting the hand that touches them lightly. However if you are brave
enough to "grasp the nettle" firmly you probably won't get stung.
