Stinging Nettle stem tips Stinging Nettle Urtica dioica is a common wayside plant in its native Britain and grows as a weed in North America. It has a hollow stem that is square in cross-section and simple leaves with toothed margins. Small greenish flowers grow from the leaf axils. The plant is covered with hairs that sting the hand that touches them lightly. However if you are brave enough to "grasp the nettle" firmly you probably won't get stung. [CH] {FB}
