Hop
Hop Humulus lupulus is a clockwise twining plant with lobed leaves.
The female flowers dangle in loose cone-like catkins and it is these that are
used to flavour beer. When cultivated in hop fields the plants climb up
strings that are stretched above the rows of plants. This species is a
European native, the two other species of Humulus come from North America and
from Asia.
