Hemp

Hemp Cannabis sativa grows one to four metres high and has hollow fibrous stems. Male and female flowers are borne on separate plants. It is the source of the drugs marijuana and the stronger Asian hashish. The word "assassin" comes from an Arabic word "hashishin" which means "hemp eaters". Hemp plants are hung to dry and they provide useful fibres for textiles. Hemp seeds are often used in bird-seed mixtures. [CH] {FW}
