Flowering stalks of Squawroot Squawroot Conopholis americana is a low fleshy plant with scale-like leaves and no chlorophyll. It lives as a parasite on the roots of trees such as the oak. Its yellow-brown flowering stalks look a bit like fleshy pinecones emerging from the forest floor. [CH] {GW}
