Indian Paintbrush
Indian Paintbrush, Painted Cup Castilleja coccinea has
very small greenish-yellow flowers which have two lips
and protruding pistils. What appears to be the flower is
really red-tipped bracts which are specialised leaves
enclosing the real flowers. These red lobed bracts give
the plant the name "painted cup". It grows on the
prairies in North America.
