Common Foxglove
Common Foxglove Digitalis purpurea is a handsome
plant that grows on acid soils in Europe. It is the source
of the heart drug digitalin. The unbranched flowering
stem grows to a height of a metre or more and it is
crowded with drooping tube-like flowers that are
pinkish-purple or more rarely white. Each flower has
two lobes with the lower lip slightly longer than the
upper and there are four stamens.
