Mountain Maple
Mountain Maple Acer spicatum is a shrub or small tree that grows by
swamps and along rocky ridges in damp soil. Its opposite leaves have three
main lobes with two smaller lobes at the stalk end. Its small greenish
flowers grow in long-stalked clusters in early summer. The fruits are
winged keys typical of the Maple genus.
