Pear
Pear Pyrus is a close relative of the apple and is considered by
some to belong to the same genus. Pear trees have simple oval leaves that
are smooth and shiny whereas apple leaves have fine hairs on the under
surface. Pear flowers are white with dark bluish-red stamens and the
blossoms appear in the spring before the leaves. The fruit of apples and
pears is called a pome in which the seedy part of the fruit is surrounded
by a fleshy juicy "receptacle".
