Family Grossulariaceae
There are about about 150 species of the genus Ribes in the
Gooseberry Family. Some botanists include currants and gooseberries in the
same genus and others separate the gooseberries, which have prickles and
spines, into the genus Grossularia. All members of the Ribes
genus can act as an alternate host for the fungus which causes blister
rust, a disease of the White Pine.
