Shooting-star
Shooting-star Dodecatheon meadia has a basal rosette of leaves that
are tinged with red at the stalk end. Several flowers are borne at the tip
of the flowering stem and these are usually pink or lilac. The petals are
swept back and the protruding stamens are joined in a pointed beak, giving
the flower the shape of a rocket. Shooting-star grows in open woods and
meadows.
