Scarlet Pimpernel in the rain Scarlet Pimpernel Anagallis arvensis is an Eurasian species that now grows as a weed in most temperate regions. The branched stem has paired leaves with no leaf-stalks (sessile) and single star-shaped flowers on long stalks grow from the leaf axils. The petals are usually bright red but may be white or even blue. The flowers open only when the sun shines closing again in dull weather. [CH] {GW}
