Scarlet Pimpernel
Scarlet Pimpernel Anagallis arvensis is an Eurasian species that now
grows as a weed in most temperate regions. The branched stem has paired
leaves with no leaf-stalks (sessile) and single star-shaped flowers on long
stalks grow from the leaf axils. The petals are usually bright red but may
be white or even blue. The flowers open only when the sun shines closing
again in dull weather.
