Smartweeds, Knotweeds and Docks are included in the Buckwheat Order (Polygonales) which has just one Family (Polygonaceae). Plant stems have enlarged joints or knots where a leaf is attached and they are often slightly zigzag in shape. In this Order the flowers, which are clustered into heads, are small and often inconspicuous with no distinction between sepals and petals. Rhubarb belongs here and several ornamental garden plants.
