Lady's-thumb Polygonum persicaria has tight heads of
pinkish flowers and stems with thickened joints. A fringed
papery sheath wraps round the stem at each joint. The
long pointed leaves often have a darkish coloured blotch
in the middle. This is a common weed of waste places.
