Matico
Matico oil is derived from this plant. The leaves are used for their astringent (drawing
together tissues) properties in herbal medicine. The part of the plant that is used is the
leaves when they are dried. The whole herb is pressed into greenish-yellow mass. It is
aromatic in taste and
color.
The drug is imported in bales. It is effective as a topical application to slight
wounds, or bites of leeches.
