Black Pepper
Piper guineense belongs to the group of varieties of piper species called false
cubebs. It has a fairly high protein and fat content, and its berries are often used as
a substitute for black pepper.
It is mostly consumed because of the flavour and aroma it imparts to food and the bite
characteristics.
The dried berries and seeds are used for counter-irritant purposes.
