PURPLE LOOSESTRIFE The Loosestrife Family (Lythraceae) does not include all plants with the common name "Loosestrife". Some of these with yellow flowers belong to the Primrose Family. Loosestrifes in the family Lythraceae usually have purple flowers. The leaves are simple with smooth margins and the flowers are in the leaf axils or in terminal spikes like those of the well-known Purple Loosestrife. The family includes herbs, shrubs and trees.
