Family Tiliaceae
Some of the more than 400 species of shrubs and
trees in the Basswood
Family are grown as ornamentals. Many of the trees
have a fibrous bark and
the leaves are arranged alternately. Flowers grow in
branched clusters and
have 5 sepals and usually 5 petals. Natural hybrids
of Basswood are quite
common so identification of species is often
difficult.
