Order Malvales

There are five families in Order Malvales and members of this order range from the strange Baobab tree to small flowering herbs. Most are shrubs and trees that grow in hot countries. In many of the flowers, the stalks of the stamens (filaments) are joined together. Cotton Gossypium, the tree that gives us chocolate Theobroma cacao, and spectacular flowers like Hibiscus (shown here), all belong in this large order. [CH] {EN}
