Order Lamiales
There are four families in Order Lamiales, three fairly large and one small
family (Lennoaceae) consisting of plants that are parasitic on the roots of
other plants. In this order, the female parts of the flower (carpels) are
divided into two chambers with a single ovule in each, and the fruit is
often a single-seeded nutlet. This picture shows the flower of Teak
Tectona grandis, a tree (in Family Verbenaceae) that provides hard,
strong wood. Some species in Order Lamiales are grown as ornamentals.
