Order Illiciales
Plants in Order Illiciales grow mostly in South East Asia, South East
United States and the Caribbean. The members of this Order seem to
represent an intermediate stage between the primitve woody Magnolia Order
(Magnoliales) and the later-evolving Buttercup Order (Ranunculales). Plants
included in Illiciales are trees, shrubs or woody vines and they are
grouped into two families. One of the features used to group species into
families and orders is the structure of their pollen grains.
