Witch-hazel
Witch-hazel Hamamelis virginiana is a coarse shrub that usually
grows in clumps of several stems. It likes moist shady conditions and grows
in the Great Lakes area. It flowers in the fall as the leaves are being
shed and the flowers have four twisted yellow petals. The forked twigs of
Witch-hazel are the favourite tool of water diviners and a medication to
treat bruises and sprains is extracted from the bark of this plant.
