American Sycamore Platanus occidentalis is one of seven species of
plane trees which is often planted along city streets. It is a large tree
easily recognised from its bark which flakes off in irregular patches
giving the trunk a mottled appearance. The leaf is almost maple-shaped but
with the lobes less well-marked & the margin is toothed. The tree known as
Sycamore in Britain Acer pseudoplatanus belongs to the Maple Family.
