Hazelnut
Hazelnut, European Filbert Corylus avellana is a small shrubby tree
that produces clusters of two to four nuts in frilly cups. The simple
toothed leaves are soft and velvety and the flowers are either male or
female. Male flowers hang in catkins and tiny female flowers appear in
winter. This species grows in Europe and Asia and the nuts are good to eat.
