Black Alder
Common or Black Alder Alnus glutinosa is a European tree that is
planted in Canada as an ornamental and to improve the soil. Its bright green
leaves are almost round and the margins are coarsely toothed. Male and female
flowers are clustered in separate catkins and the picture shows the fairly
large fruiting bodies of this species.
