Beaked Hazel
Beaked Hazel Corylus cornuta is a shrub that grows to a height of
about four metres. It has simple oval-shaped leaves that are arranged
alternately and have toothed margins. Fertilised female flowers form clusters
of a few round hard-shelled nuts each covered in a bristly beak-shaped
"involucre".
