Blue False Indigo
Blue False Indigo Baptisia australis grows to a height of one and a
half metres and has spikes of dark blue flowers. This plant grows up every
year (perennial) from a thick underground stem. Its leaves are divided into
three leaflets with wide rounded tips which blacken as they dry out. It is
a plant of moist gravelly soils in woods and prairies.
