Bean Phaseolus vulgaris has many cultivated varieties. Its leaves are divided into three leaflets and the flowers produce long pods that are eaten when immature as green or yellow beans. Some varieties are allowed to mature and the seeds are used as food such as navy beans and kidney beans. Other plants with the common name "bean" may belong to different genera such as the Broad Bean Vicia faba and the Soybean in the genus Soja. [CH] {FW}
