Poinsettia
Poinsettia Euphorbia pulcherrima is a native of Mexico, and in
Central America the plant may grow to a height of 2 metres. Like many
members of the Spurge Family it has tiny flowers that have no petals or
sepals but just the parts that produce the male and female spores, the
stamens and pistils. What appears to be the flower is really a whorl of red
bracts surrounding the flowers. Poinsettia is popular as a potted plant for
the Christmas season.
