Cassava
Cassava, Manioc Manihot includes tropical species that are used as a
source of food. They are bushy plants about 2 metres high with
palmately-divided leaves and yellowish-green flowering heads. There are
poisonous and non-poisonous varieties but as cooking destroys the poison
both varieties may be eaten after proper preparation. The roots are edible
as they are, or are powdered to produce a kind of flour and in South
America an alcoholic drink is made from Cassava.
