Leatherleaf
Leatherleaf Chamaedaphne calyculata is a common shrub on lake
borders and in swampy areas sometimes forming dense thickets. Its
alternately-arranged leathery leaves are a long oval shape and are brown
and scaly on the undersurface. Stems bearing whitish flowers on one side
appear at the ends of branches in the spring and soon die down.
