Heather, Ling Calluna vulgaris is a low-growing evergreen shrubby plant of heaths and moors in the British Isles and western Europe. It is also an introduced species in North America. It has very small leaves which closely overlap each other on small side branches. It likes well-drained acid soils and its pale purple flowers can colour vast areas of a Scottish moor. [CH] {FB}
