Red-berried Elder Sambucus pubens is a shrub with large leaves that are divided into five or seven pointed oval leaflets. Compound leaves are not the norm in the Honeysuckle Family. The flowers are in clusters and these form red berry-like fruits which can be seen in this picture. This is one of the few shrubs that can tolerate smelter fumes. [CH] {SH}
