Carnation
Carnation Dianthus caryophyllus is one of the best-known members of
the Pink family as it is so popular as a cut flower. It comes from southern
Europe and is widely cultivated for the florist's trade. The single blooms
have ruffled petals and varieties of many colours have been developed. It
gets its name from the French "carne" meaning "flesh" as the original
flowers were flesh-coloured.
