Cardinal Flower

Cardinal Flower Lobelia cardinalis has brilliant red blooms. To paddle a canoe into a quiet bay and suddenly see the vivd colour of Cardinal Flowers is a real delight. The flowering stalks are about a metre in height and may be seen in wet places in eastern North America. Each flower has the shape typical of the Lobelia Family with three petals joined to form a lower drooping lobe and two upper petals like narrow ears. [CH] {GW}
