Cornflower
Cornflower Centaurea cyanus is also known as
Bachelor's Button and like other members of the
knapweed genus it has flowering heads which have no
ray-florets but just disk-florets with the marginal ones
enlarged. The flowers are usually blue but are
sometimes white or pink. The stems are grooved and
the narrow leaves are covered with downy hairs. This
species comes from Europe and now grows in waste
places in North America.
