Canadian Wild Ginger
Wild Ginger Asarum canadense is a peculiar-looking plant which may be found in rich
woods of North America. It grows to be about 15 to 30 centimetres tall. The leaves are large
and heart-shaped with hairy stalks, and a reddish-brown, cup-shaped flower grows out at
ground level from the point where two leaves are joined. Furry buds for the following year's
growth may be seen on the stems in the fall.
This plant is a useful, but coarse, ground cover.
