Family Polypodiaceae
Most of the plants we recognise as ferns belong to the
large Polypodiaceae family. There are more than 170
genera with over 7000 species. Because differences
between genera are not very great, there are
arguments as to how some species are related. The
type of spore case is one of the main features used
to decide where a species belongs. Spore cases
in this family are long-stalked with a way of splitting
open that is characteristic of the group. MORE!
