New York Fern growing by path New York Fern Thelypteris noveboracensis belongs to the same genus as Marsh Fern and the Beech Ferns. It grows in well-lit areas in woodlands where its delicate yellowy-green fronds can spread over quite a large area. Like other species in this genus it has spore-bearing leaves that look much the same as the sterile ones and the fruitdots on the underside of the fertile fronds are round and covered by an indusium that is kidney-shaped.
