Maidenhair Spleenwort on English stone wall Maidenhair Spleenwort Asplenium trichomanes belongs to a genus which has over 600 species, most of them growing in the tropics. The spleenworts are beautiful little evergreen ferns often found growing in rock crevices or in the cracks of a stone wall. The paired leaflets of some species make the fronds look like little green ladders with dark stalks and midribs. Other species such as Mountain Spleenwort Asplenium montanum have the leaflets divided again so the frond looks more fern-like. [CH] {FG}
