Interrupted Fern
Interrupted Fern Osmunda claytoniana gets its name from its fertile
spore-bearing fronds which look as if they have gaps part way up and this
makes Interrupted Fern easy to identify. The "interruptions" are where the
brown shrivelled-looking spore-bearing leaflets grow between the larger
green leaflets of the frond. Sterile fronds that do not produce spores are
large and gracefully curving.
