Green Algae
Most species of Green Algae
are aquatic, living in the sea
or in fresh water. Some may
grow in damp conditions on
land, on wet rocks or on the
moist shaded side of a tree
trunk. Green algae appeared
on Earth more than a billion
years ago and there are now
about 7,000 species spread all
over the world. The green
pigment chlorophyll absorbs
red and blue light reflecting
the green light to our eyes.
