HELP INDEX NEXT UP PREVIOUS FEEDBACK ATG Peat Moss
Peat moss stem tips Sphagnum plants have spreading branches that are clustered more densely at the tips of the stems. The progression from a shallow lake to a bog is largely due to the growth of Sphagnum which forms a thick floating mat. This provides a place for other plants to grow and gradually the water becomes a quaking bog. Peat Mosses have an enormous capacity for absorbing water so they made excellent diapers for early North American babies. They also make good packing for fresh-cut flowers as they help to retain moisture. [CH] {FW}
